NEMO Officially Certified by KKP in Indonesia

CLS Indonesia is proud to announce that NEMO has officially obtained certification from Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), marking an important milestone for CLS in the country. Designed specifically for small-scale fisheries, NEMO provides reliable vessel monitoring through satellite and cellular connectivity, offering a solution adapted to the needs of fishing communities and fisheries authorities.
As the world’s largest archipelagic state, Indonesia has more than 17,000 islands and around 108,000 km of coastline, making fisheries an essential activity for many coastal communities across the country. Small-scale fisheries are particularly important: according to Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), around 90% of Indonesian fishers are small-scale fishers, while FAO highlights their essential contribution to livelihoods, food security and the country’s fisheries production. In such a vast and fragmented maritime territory, monitoring thousands of small fishing vessels operating from communities spread across the archipelago represents a significant challenge. Reliable and accessible vessel monitoring solutions are therefore particularly relevant. By providing information on vessel positions and activities at sea, NEMO can support the digitalization of small-scale fisheries, improve visibility overfishing activities and contribute to safer and more effective fisheries management in Indonesia.
A VMS designed for small-scale fisheries

More than a simple GPS tracker NEMO is a vessel tracking beacon with an integrated Vessel Monitoring System (VMS), specifically designed for small-scale fishing vessels. Compact, robust and easy to install, the terminal automatically reports vessel positions without requiring complex onboard equipment. Its solar-powered design provides greater autonomy and makes it particularly suitable for small vessels with limited or no access to a permanent onboard power supply. The equipment is designed for demanding marine environments, with technical specifications including IP68 protection and compliance with maritime equipment standards.
NEMO also includes an assistance button that can be used by fishers to send an alert when needed, including when a vessel is operating outside cellular coverage. This combination of geolocation, connectivity and autonomous power helps maintain a continuous link between vessels and monitoring systems while supporting safety at sea
From vessel positions to fisheries management data

The information collected by NEMO can be integrated into a digital monitoring platform designed to securely manage data from large numbers of vessels. Fisheries authorities can use these data to visualize vessel activity and access monitoring functionalities such as geofencing, alerts and data analysis. The NEMO ecosystem can also be combined with mobile applications supporting functions such as catch reporting and access to useful navigation information. By bringing together vessel positioning, satellite and cellular connectivity and digital management tools, NEMO provides a comprehensive approach to monitoring small-scale fisheries, helping authorities improve their understanding of fishing activities while supporting fishers with technology designed for their operational realities.
